Graham,
Hello. Long time, no talk. If you recall, I was the analyst at JMP Securities when Rackspace went public. I happened to come across your blog as I was doing a search on net promoter scores. I had no idea Rackspace was implementing this system.

My wife owns a dry cleaning franchise and she just implemented Net Promoter System to survey her customers. She's using Systino - very interesting SAAS-based software that allows organizations to implement Net Promoter Scores. She has a 80% right now!! But we just started so not sure if we're just benefitting from fewer data points. I'll keep you updated..:)

Hope all is well and the team at Rackspace is also doing well.

Please bear with me. My name is Ray Botella age 56, have lived in San Antonio since 1955. I can remember when Windsor Park Mall was a cow pasture/ranch. But it had a shitty dirt road cutting throught it that we used to come home from Roosevelt. I have worked in construction and trades since 1972., running crews since age 19. Being 56 and working like I am 30 doesn't work anymore, although the work ethic remains. I need a steady job, emptying trash is not below me. I live right across I35 from windsor. married 37 years and raisng our grandson. Could i get an interview? -have tried online but all that is is listed are things ray knows nothing about; computer idiot : that is me. I want to learn, and realize i must start from the bottom.

….but a score of 80 makes my mind go crazy. I wonder where Rackspace would be if we had a score of 80! Would our customer referral rate be twice as high? Would our profit be twice as large? Would we be twice as successful?

Basic physics would tend to indicate"no" to your question, but it is possible...i would estimate that it would take about three parts more of input to gain an additional one part output. Happpens in refrigeration, it's one of the basic laws, Basically stated and minus the abstract formulas... you need 3 horsepower to accomplish 1hp worth of energy transfer. generally this would work in all fields.( The three laws of thermodynamics). regards, and you should check out

Graham,

As a tech savvy person, I know what cloud computing is but I had to give you props for your description. I've never seen anyone describe it in such a clear and concise way and with such an AWESOME analogy! I tried to explain cloud computing to my Wife recently and I couldn't explain it in a way she'd understand. I'll just send her to your blog! Great job!

the idea of cloud computing is still a bit foggy to me. I've never seen any companies offering any support for the clients infrastructures in the cloud, will you be the first? With all of the porno sites, video game servers is there any beacon in the cloud for the rest of us more ethical and legitimate businesses?
